Emory & Henry Volleyball Outlasted In Two Five-Set Thrillers Sunday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (3-9, 0-2 ODAC) toughed its way through a pair of five set matches on Sunday afternoon at home.

In an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match against Guilford, E&H rallied from two sets down to force a fifth but fell, 3-2 to start the day. Senior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) became the fifth player in Wasps history to reach 2,000 assists with her fourth assist in the third set.

In the final match of the day, Emory & Henry jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Maryville (Tenn.) College but ran out of steam, dropping a 3-2 decision to its East Tennessee rival. MC defeated Guilford, 3-1, in the second contest.

The Guilford Match
- Senior outside hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) put up a match-high 17 kills on 41 swings while senior right-side hitter Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) added eight kills and three blocks.
- McCauley posted a season-high 39 assists as she eclipsed the milestone and came just short of the double-double with nine digs.
- Senior libero Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.) notched 18 digs and had two aces while freshman outside hitter Chelsie Crussell (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 11 digs of her own.

The Maryville Match
- E&H saw three players reach double figures in digs, led by Holmberg with 17. Freshman Delaini Nagy (Clover, S.C.) finished with 14 kills while Morehouse added 13 on a .407 hitting effort (13-2-27).
- McCauley dished out 39 more assists and added seven digs and three aces.
- Junior defensive specialist Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had 12 digs and two aces while Baxter registered 11 digs, six assists and three aces.
