Washington and Lee Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Volleyball Team (5-0, 5-0 ODAC) picked up a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) Old Dominion Athletic Conference win against Emory & Henry College (0-3, 0-3 ODAC) Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got out to a 5-2 lead in the opening set but W&L responded to take a 12-9 lead. Four straight points by the Wasps made the score 14-12, but the Generals reeled off six in a row to gain an 18-14 advantage. The two squads traded points for the remainder of the set with Washington and Lee holding their lead to win, 25-19.
- The Generals started the second on a 6-0 run and pushed the margin to 20-6. Down 24-10, E&H scored five in a row to close the gap to single digits before W&L grabbed the final point to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Washington and Lee grabbed a 7-2 lead early in the third frame but Emory & Henry bounced back to close the gap to 10-8. The Wasps used a 7-2 run later in the set to get within one, 17-16, and scored four in a row to tie things up at 20-apiece. After another tie at 21-all, the Generals scored the final four points to take the set, 25-21, and the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted a team-high seven kills hitting .300 (7-1-20) on the night with four blocks. Sophomore right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) had six kills and four blocks of her own.
- Sophomore setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) posted 11 assists, five digs and two aces while freshman libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) went for 16 digs.

Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- Brynne Gould notched 11 kills and eight digs to pace the Generals while Courtney Berry had nine kills, two aces and two blocks.
- Ashley Webb notched a double-double with 27 assists and 13 digs, adding four kills and two blocks. Kiera Borthwick and Caroline Gard finished the night with 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

- Emory & Henry will host a tri-match with Eastern Mennonite University and Guilford College on Saturday. The Wasps will play at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
