Concord Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-1, Friday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Concord University Volleyball Team (2-1) came from down 1-0 in the match to pick up a 3-1 win at Emory & Henry College (3-5) Friday evening in a battle of NCAA Division II programs.

How It Happened
-The opening set featured 12 ties and six lead changes as both squads looked to take control of the match early. The Mountain Lions were on the cusp of winning the set, 24-23, but the Wasps responded with three straight points capped by back-to-back aces by junior right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) to win, 26-24.
- In the second, the story was nearly the same with 13 ties and eight lead changes. E&H led, 5-2, early on, but Concord erased the deficit with four points in a row in the middle of the frame. Tied at 23-all CU tied the match at one set apiece with a pair of kills from Amber Hall.
- The Wasps opened up an 8-4 lead in the third but the Mountain Lions bounced back with a six-point scoring run to force an E&H timeout. Concord began to put some distance in the score, grabbing a 25-21 win.
- The fourth stanza saw CU go ahead 10-4 early. Emory & Henry stayed within striking distance but Concord turned away each run to hold off the rally and take the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted a team-high 16 kills, hitting .355 (16-5-31) with three blocks while Williams went for 12 kills, seven digs and three blocks.
- Freshman outside hitter Camden Jones (Bristol, Va.) had 10 kills and eight digs while freshman middle Samantha Worthy (Arden, N.C.) recorded six kills and six blocks.
- Junior setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) dished out 34 assists as sophomore libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted 15 digs.

Concord Individual Leaders
- Hannah Steele led all players with 23 kills on a .452 hitting percentage while Hall notched 14 kills and three blocks.
- Imani Rodgers went for 32 assists as her counterpart, Kristin Lough, had 25 assists and two aces. Kelli Ellison posted 25 digs on the night.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will play its third-straight home match on Monday evening when it hosts Brevard College at 6:00 p.m. The contest will serve as the Wasps' annual Throwback Night.
