Carson-Newman Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, Tuesday In SAC Action

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (2-6, 0-2 SAC) got South Atlantic Conference play underway on Tuesday evening with a loss to Carson-Newman University (4-6, 2-0 SAC). The Lady Eagles earned the sweep by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-12.

How It Happened
- The first set began as an evenly-contested affair as the two teams were level at 7-7 in the early stages. Carson-Newman would respond with a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead at 13-7. The Lady Eagles would maintain their advantage throughout and take the opening frame 25-16.
- The second stanza was similar to the first through the middle stages, as the Wasps battled to keep things close at 16-15 in favor of the home team. Once again the Lady Eagles utilized a big rally as they won nine of the final ten points to take set two by another 25-16 margin.
- Carson-Newman did not let up in the third set, winning the first 11 points en route to a 25-12 win to clinch the match. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) led Emory & Henry with five kills, one dig, one block and a service ace while junior middle Samantha Worthy (Arden, N.C.) added four kills.
- Junior libero Grace Nelson (Murphy, N.C.) had a match-high 14 digs and one assist. Sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) posted a team-high 16 assists, six digs, two blocks, one kill and a service ace. 

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Julia Wheeler led the Lady Eagles with nine kills, ten digs, one block, one assist and a service ace. Taylor Adams contributed eight kills, three kills, three blocks  and four service aces.
- Carlee Allbaugh registered a double-double with 19 assists, ten digs and a service ace.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry makes the trip south to the mountains of North Carolina on Friday for a showdown with the Mars Hill University Lions. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
