How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got off to a hot start and took an early 15-11 lead on a kill from senior right-side hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.). The Wasps were relentless in the latter stages of the opening frame and junior middle Samantha Worthy (Arden, N.C.) slammed home a kill to put emphasis on the 25-16 win.
- E&H would win the first two points of the second stanza, but the Lions rattled off nine of the next ten to take a 9-3 advantage. Mars Hill maintained its lead throughout the set, leveling the match by taking set two 25-14.
- The Lions were first to 15 in the third set as they clung to a slim two point lead. MHU pushed their advantage out to 21-17, but an E&H rally closed the gap to just one and forced a timeout from the home team. 25 points would not be enough to win the set as the Wasps battled back to tie things up and force extra points. The Lions were able to outlast the Wasps and take the set 28-26.
- The fourth began as a back-and-forth battle, but MHU was able to mount a rally and open up a 17-11 lead. The Lions continued to attack and pulled away to clinch the match 25-14
