Emory & Henry Volleyball Drops 3-2 Decision To UVA Wise Tuesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (3-8, 1-4 SAC) dropped its South Atlantic Conference showdown against southwest Virginia rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise (7-4, 2-3 SAC) in five sets on Tuesday evening.

How It Happened
- The Wasps got out to a hot start to take the first set. E&H overcame an early two-point deficit to run out to a 12-5 advantage. The Cavaliers would not go quietly and battled back within a point at 15-14. The home squad rattled off four consecutive points and reached set point at 24-20. Senior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) and junior outside hitter Sophia Kaiser (Stafford, Va.) combined for a block to clinch the opener 25-20.
- Wise would respond in the second frame. The Cavs scored eight of the first ten points of the set to run out to a six-point lead early on. The Wasps rallied to even the score at 13-13 midway through the stanza. The teams traded points in a set that saw seven different ties, but Wise won the final six points to even the match with a 25-19 set win.
- The third set was another tightly-contested affair that had the two squads all square at 11-11. The later stages of the set went back-and-forth and the Wasps once again reached set point at 24-23. Sophomore middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) rejected a UVA Wise attack to put E&H ahead two sets to one.
- E&H was the first to 15 points in the fourth set as it held a two-point advantage over the visitors from Wise. The Cavaliers once again rallied and the match evened at 20-20. Wise would pick up five of the final seven points to take the set and force a deciding fifth frame.
- Wise was dominant in the fifth and final set as the Cavaliers posted an attack percentage of .409 en route to a 15-7 win to take the set and the match. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hogan led the Wasps' attack with 16 kills, two blocks, one dig and one assist while Kaiser posted a double-double with 11 digs, ten kills, three blocks and an assist. Miller recorded nine kills, eight blocks, four digs and an assist. Senior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine kills, three blocks and two digs.
- Sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) dished out a match-high 32 assists to go along with 12 digs, seven blocks and six kills. Sophomore setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) had 16 assists, four digs and a service ace in the loss.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Kaylee Scarce led the Cavaliers with her 17 kills, eight digs, six assists and a block. Riley Brandon contributed 14 kills, five assists, one kill and a block.
- Piper Suddeth had a double-double with 22 assists, a match-high 18 digs, three kills and a pair of service aces.

- Emory & Henry continue South Atlantic Conference play on Friday evening when they travel to Gaffney, South Carolina to take on the Saints of Limestone University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the Timken Center.
