Emory & Henry Volleyball Tops Winston-Salem State, 3-0, Tuesday Evening

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (6-10, 2-6 SAC) picked up a road non-conference victory Tuesday evening as the Wasps swept Winston-Salem State University (6-12, 3-4 CIAA). E&H earned the win by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19.

How It Happened

- The Wasps were fast out of the gate and held a 15-10 advantage at the midway point of the opening set. The Rams closed to within just one at 20-19, but E&H rallied with five consecutive points to take the first frame 25-19. Junior outside hitter Sophia Kaiser (Stafford, Va.) posted five kills in the set to pace the Wasps.

- WSSU responded in the second stanza, running out to a 16-12 lead. The Wasps answered in the second half of the frame to erase the deficit and reach set point. Sophomore middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) slammed home a kill to earn the second set win 25-23. 

- E&H left no doubt in the third set as the Wasps won six of the first seven points to lead the entire frame and wrap up the clean sweep by a third set score of 25-19.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Kaiser recorded her best performance as a Wasp as she led the E&H offensive attack with a season-high 19 kills and nine digs while Miller finished the match with 12 kills and four digs. Senior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted seven kills, three digs and an assist.

- Sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a match-high 40 assists, seven digs and a pair of kills. Senior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) recorded a match-high 11 digs and five assists.

Winston-Salem State Individual Leaders
- Raven Gray led the Rams with 12 kills, four digs, two service aces and an assist. Lexis Tatum posted eight kills, three digs, a block and an assist.

- Brooke Norwood had a team-high 15 assists, five digs and a kill in the loss.

- Emory & Henry returns home on Friday, October 13 to kick off Homecoming Weekend against Lenoir-Rhyne University. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.  Friday night's game will also serve as Alumni Night and a reception will be held following the match.
