Emory & Henry Volleyball Tops UVA Wise In Five Sets Tuesday Night

WISE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (9-15, 5-9 SAC) avenged an early-season loss to the University of Virginia's College at Wise (9-13, 2-12 SAC) with a five-set victory in South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday evening. The Wasps earned the win by scores of 15-25, 26-24, 26-24, 11-25 and 15-12.

How It Happened
- The Cavaliers were first to 15 in the opening set as they ran out to a five-point advantage at the midpoint. UVA Wise continued to add to their lead and utilized seven service aces to take the first set 25-15 and jump ahead one set to none.
- The Wasps took a 6-2 lead early in the second frame, but the Cavaliers responded to push in front by a 15-12 margin. Wise would win eight of the following eleven points to make the score 20-15 and force an E&H timeout. The visitors from Emory responded by winning seven consecutive points to take the lead 22-20. The score stood even at 24-24, but back-to-back kills from freshman right-side hitter Abigail Chadwick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and senior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) clinched the second set win by a 26-24 scoreline to level the match. 
- The two teams traded blows throughout a third set that saw the score tied 15 times and the lead change hands on 10 separate occasions. Junior outside hitter Sophia Kaiser (Stafford, Va.) clinched the frame on a kill to seal the 26-24 win and give the Wasps the two sets to one advantage.
- The Cavaliers bounced back in the fourth set, running out to a 15-10 lead. Wise was relentless the remainder of the frame as they posted a .387 hitting percentage to take the stanza by a 25-11 score to level the match and force a deciding fifth set.
- UVA Wise took the early 4-2 lead in the fifth until the Wasps rattled off four straight to put themselves ahead. The Cavaliers responded once more to take a 12-10 lead, but the Wasps would not go away easily and won four straight to set up match point. Junior middle Samantha Worthy (Arden, N.C.) put away the home team with a service ace to clinch the set and match by a 15-12 scoreline.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hogan led the Wasps on the offensive end, tying a career-high with 18 kills, four digs and an assist. Kaiser posted her third double-double of the season with 12 kills, 17 digs, a pair of assists and a block while senior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight kills, three blocks and a dig. Freshman outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) contributed eight kills, four digs, three blocks, an assist and a service ace.
- Sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) registered a double-double with a career-high 54 assists,  17 digs, three blocks and a pair of kills. Senior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a career-high 34 digs and four helpers. 

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Kaylee Scarce recorded a double-double with 23 kills, 15 digs, an assist and a service ace. Morgan Blankenship had 16 kills, four digs and four blocks.
- Lily Gutierrez posted a team-high 30 assists, 11 digs, four service aces and a kill while Kamryn Livingston tallied a team-high 27 digs, one assist and a service ace.

- Emory & Henry travels to Salisbury, North Carolina on Friday, November 3 to take on the Lady Catawba Indians of Catawba College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Goodman Arena.
