Wingate Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-1, In Season Finale Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (10-18, 6-12 SAC) won the opening set, but dropped the following three to Wingate University (25-2, 17-1 SAC) in the Wasps' season finale Friday night. The Bulldogs earned the victory by scores of 19-25, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-15.

How It Happened
- The Wasps jumped on the Bulldogs early, as they ran out to a 17-11 lead and forced a timeout from the visitors. E&H continued to put pressure on Wingate as freshman outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) and sophomore outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) each recorded three kills as the Wasps took the opening set 25-19.
- Wingate returned the favor in the second frame, pushing their advantage out to 18-11 through the middle stages and forcing an E&H timeout. The Bulldogs led the entire way in the second set on their way to a 25-13 win to even the match.
- The Bulldogs were first to 15 in the third as they held onto a narrow three-point lead. Wingate did not look back the rest of the set as they won 25-22 to jump ahead two sets to one. 
- The visitors took another early lead in the fourth frame, pushing their advantage out to a 14-8 margin. The Bulldogs put the finishing touches on the win as they took the fourth set by a 25-15 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hopgood led the Wasps with 12 kills, two digs, two blocks and a service ace while senior outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted ten kills, four digs and an assist. Senior middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded five kills and four blocks in addition to Duey's five kills, three digs, one block and an assist.
- Sophomore setter Payton Rolfsen (Fort Wayne, Ind.) registered a double-double with a team-high 29 assists, 13 digs, two kills, one block and a service ace. Senior libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a match-high 27 digs, four assists and a kill.

Wingate Individual Leaders
- Maggie Young went for 12 kills, four digs, four service aces and a pair of blocks while Emily Johnson recorded 12 kills, seven blocks and a dig. Amber Rowoldt added seven kills, 11 digs, four blocks and a service ace.
- Maya Van Heyst posted a double-double with 22 assists and 11 kills. Katie Jamerson also recorded a double-double with her 20 assists and 12 digs.
