Mars Hill Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-0, Saturday Evening; Bickelhaupt Reaches 1,000 Career Digs Mark

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (1-6, 0-1 SAC) got its South Atlantic Conference slate underway with a loss to Mars Hill University (3-3, 1-0 SAC) Saturday evening. The Lions swept the Wasps by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-14.

How It Happened
- The opening set was evenly played as the Lions held on to a narrow 12-10 advantage early on. A quick 4-0 run from MHU saw them increase the margin out to six, but the Wasps responded with five of the next six points to close the deficit to a pair at 17-15. The Lions were first to 20 points at 20-18 and took five of the final eight points of the set to jump ahead 1-0.
- It was a similar start to the second stanza, but the visitors took control through the middle stages to establish an 18-10 lead. The Lions controlled things throughout the set as they cruised to the 25-14 victory and two-set lead.
- The third and final frame was more of the same as Mars Hill would not be denied on the afternoon. The Lions took the last set by another 25-14 scoreline to clinch the SAC win. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Fifth-year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) was the leading scorer for E&H as she posted eight kills and a block. Sophomore middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) added four kills, two digs and a block while sophomore front row Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) chipped in with four kills, two digs and a block.
- Fifth-year libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) eclipsed the 1,000 career digs mark during the first set and finished with a match-high 20 digs, three assists and a service ace. Junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) had a team-high 15 assists and five digs. Junior middle Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) recorded four kills and a pair of digs. 

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Skylar Ogden had a team-high 10 kills, four digs and a pair of blocks while Ioana Poenaru posted nine kills, five digs, three service aces and an assist.
- Laela Jimenez had a team-high 18 digs, three service aces, three assists and a kill. Alyssa Kornegay registered a match-high 21 assists and four digs to go along with Mackenzie Schmucker's 17 assists, seven digs and a kill.

- Emory & Henry wraps up its three-game homestand on Tuesday, September 17 when the Wasps continue South Atlantic Conference play against Carson-Newman University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
