Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls To Anderson In Three Sets Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Anderson (S.C.) University Volleyball Team (14-7, 10-3) defeated Emory & Henry University (4-16, 1-10 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play inside the John Rutledge King Center Friday evening. The Trojans earned the win by set scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23.

How It Happened
- The two teams went back and forth to begin the opening set and the Wasps clung to the early 10-7 advantage, forcing a Trojans' timeout. Anderson roared back out of the break, posting a 16-3 run through the middle stages to take control. E&H managed to close the deficit to seven, but Anderson closed out the set 25-17.
- The Wasps tallied the first four points of the second frame to take an early lead, but once again the Trojans clawed back to tie things up at 7-7. AU pushed its advantage out to 14-10 before four straight points by the Wasps tied the match once more at 14-14. Both squads continued to trade blows through the middle of the stanza and the Trojans held the narrow 20-19 margin heading into the deciding points. AU finished off the second set with a 5-0 run to take the two sets to none lead.
- The third set was another tightly-contested affair that saw the teams change leads seven times and were tied on 15 separate occasions. The set stood all square at the midpoint at 15-15, but the Wasps rattled off six of the next nine points to establish a three-point margin. Anderson powered back in the late stages, finishing the set on a 7-2 run to take the frame and the match 25-23.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Fifth-year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) posted seven kills and 11 digs while junior outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) added six kills, two digs and a pair of blocks. Junior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) finished with three kills, six blocks and a pair of service aces. Fifth-year middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded four kills and four blocks.
- Fifth-year libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) registered a match-high 24 digs, four assists and a pair of service aces while junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) contributed a team-high 17 assists and a dig.

Anderson Individual Leaders
- Emily Campbell paced the Trojans with 11 kills, four digs, two blocks and a service ace. Libby Nieporte posted seven kills, eight digs, three service aces and a block in addition to Brantley Chipley's seven kills, two blocks, one assist and a dig.
- Ellie Nieporte finished with a match-high 43 assists, four digs, one kill and a block. Hannah Neff chipped in with 15 digs, one kill and a service ace.

- The Wasps are back on the road on Tuesday, October 29 when they travel to face off against the Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Mary Mars Gymnasium.
