Kyla King is entering her fourth year as the Head Volleyball Coach at Emory & Henry College. King transitioned into her role during the spring 2018 semester as she completed the academic year in the Sumner County Tennessee School System, joining the athletics staff full-time in May of 2018.

King spent the previous six years at the Head Volleyball Coach and a special education teacher at Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In addition to directing the coaching, scheduling and operations for the Commandos’ three teams, she also implemented a middle school camp program that saw attendance grow by 200 percent over the course of four years.

King also has strong ties to Junior Olympic volleyball, serving as a coach for Ethos Volleyball Club in Nashville. She has coached ages 13 through 18 since beginning with the club in 2012 including a pair of all-star teams in 2014 and 2015. King has also coached with the Alliance Volleyball Club out of Franklin, Tennessee and BRAVO Volleyball Club in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

A product of NCAA Division III, King was a four-year letterwinner at Maryville (Tenn.) College and led the Scots to three Great South Athletic Conference championships and four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. During her career which spanned from 2001-04, MC posted a 122-29 overall record.

King, a native of East Tennessee, graduated from Maryville in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in child development and learning. She holds a pair of master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University in psychology (2009) and exceptional education (2012).
