Emory & Henry Cross Country Shines At Greensboro Invitational Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams had their best outing so far this year Saturday afternoon at the 32nd Annual Greensboro Invitational. The meet, which was held at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro featured teams from all three NCAA Divisions and the NAIA.

The Emory & Henry men came home with the team title in the Division III race, finishing first out of four teams. Sophomore Michael LoGrande (Alexandria, Va.) won the division with a time of 27:43 over the 8K course. Finishing third was Wasp freshman Austin Tolbert (Wytheville, Va.) in 28:29 while juniors Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) and Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) were fifth (28:59) and sixth (29:02), respectively.

Rounding out the top five for E&H was freshman Zane Moran (Floyd, Va.) with a time of 29:13 while sophomore Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) also earned top 10 finishes.

In the women's 5K race, sophomore Meg Greene (Charlotte, N.C.) finished in fourth place with a time of 21:14 while junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) was sixth (22:11). Freshmen McKenna Tankersley (Big Stone Gap, Va.) and Kelly Light (Blountville, Tenn.) came in 11th and 13th overall, running 22:47 and 23:14, respectively.

Freshman Taylor Henderson (Glade Spring, Va.) was the fifth runner for the Wasps, finishing the course in 23:39 (19th) while sophomore Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) was 20th, stopping the watches with a 24:03. Freshman Annie Kate Leinius (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) rounded out the E&H team in 28:44.

As a team, Emory & Henry claimed runner-up honors in the six-team field with Mary Baldwin College winning the race behind the efforts of medalist Kathryn Carr, who covered the course in 20:10.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Friday, October 3 when it competes in the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
