Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes At The Paul Short Run Friday Evening

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed Friday at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University at the Murray H. Goodman Campus. The event is one of the largest cross country meets in the nation with more than 5,500 athletes from over 400 competing teams.

The E&H men finished 12thh out of 39 teams in the 8K White Race while the Wasp women were 29thh of 43 in the 6K White Race.

Leading the Emory & Henry men were sophomores Michael LoGrande (Alexandria, Va.) and Michael Cawood (Louisville, Ky.) who finished 65th (27:32) and 67th (27:33) overall, respectively. Third for the Wasps was junior Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) with a time of 27:44 for 81st place while junior Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) was 93rd (27:58). Rounding out the top five for E&H was freshman Austin Tolbert (Wytheville, Va.), coming in 108th with a run of 28:18.

Winning the team championship in the White Race was the University of Mary Washington while Southern Connecticut's Dieter Gutbrod was the medalist, covering the 8K distance in 25:25.

On the women's side, sophomore Meg Greene (Charlotte, N.C.) turned in a time of 25:44 to finish 123rd overall. Freshman McKenna Tankersley (Big Stone Gap, Va.) and junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) were 143rd (26:18) and 145th (26:19), respectively while freshman Kelly Light (Blountville, Va.) ran a 27:05 to finish 176th overall. Rounding out the top five for the Wasps was sophomore Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) (27:40; 196th).

Haverford College placed three runners in the top 15 to capture the team title while Amanda Eisman of West Chester University won the race with a time of 21:51.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Saturday, October 17 at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Preview Meet in Winchester, Virginia.
