BLACKSBURG, Va. - Mike Young played basketball at Emory & Henry College for legendary coach Bob Johnson. He came back after graduation to serve his alma mater as an assistant coach – one of several assistants of "Coach J" who have had great careers in athletics. Most recently Mike has made a name for himself, and his team, as head coach for the Wofford College men's basketball team – which just competed in the 2019 NCAA tournament, beating Seton Hall and advancing to the second round for the first time in Wofford history. The Terriers completed the season with a 30-5 overall record, including a 21-game winning streak, and a perfect 18-0 mark in the Southern Conference. For his efforts, Young was named the Sporting News NCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Coach of the Year.

Now, the Radford, Virginia, native is making history again, as he heads off to Virginia Tech to be the Hokies' next head men's basketball coach.

An ESPN article quotes Young saying, "I've long admired Virginia Tech from afar for its principles, as well as for the ability of its athletic programs to consistently win with integrity. I can't wait to meet our student-athletes, support staff and fans as we prepare to get to work in Blacksburg."

Young was inducted into the Emory & Henry College Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 for his accomplishments with the Terriers.
