RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia's horse industry has contributed to the economic success and stability of the Commonwealth for almost 400 years, proven by a $1.2 Billion annual impact on the economy. The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry University academic and competitive riding programs are a strong testament to Virginia's continued success in the horse industry. Now, thanks to a grant from the Virginia Horse Industry Board, Intermont Equestrian can continue supporting current equestrian students, and attract even more to Southwest Virginia's oldest institution of higher education.

With this grant, the Virginia Horse Industry Board will be a Premier Sponsor of Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry University for the 2025-26 academic year. The Wasps had another exceptional year in 2024-25, winning a record-ninth Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship title for its 24th national title overall, along with a sixth-place finish at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association National Championships.

With more than 450 intercollegiate equestrian programs fighting for a top position each year, Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry University continues its historic stronghold as one of the most elite in the nation. The 2025-26 season will kick off in September, with the full schedule available soon at www.GoWasps.com.

Founded in 1994 as the result of legislation and a statewide referendum, the Virginia Horse Industry Board promotes and develops economic opportunities for the betterment of the horse industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VHIB operates through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to function as a commodity board for the development of the industry. The Board aims to promote and develop all breeds, disciplines, interests, schools, and equine-related businesses throughout Virginia, through means such as promotion and support of educational programs, research opportunities, marketing, and collection of information for accurate database listings.
