ROCK HILL, S.C. - Emory & Henry College fifth-year linebacker Ivan Phillips (Kingsport, Tenn.) has been picked as the South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. This marks the second week in a row that the Wasps have had a player honored by SAC office.

Phillips, who currently leads the team in tackles, posted 10 stops during the Wasps' 34-14 win over the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Saturday eight of which were solo. He added 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards and recovered a fumble that he returned 12 yards for the final touchdown of the game.

This is the fourth time in his career that Phillips has received individual recognition. He was named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 29, 2019, selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Mar. 16, 2021 and tabbed the ECAC Division II Football Defensive Player of the Month for October 2021.

Emory & Henry will take to the road for its next pair of South Atlantic Conference games. The Wasps visit Mars Hill University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It will be the 10th meeting between the Wasps and Lions and the first since 1975.
