Emory, Va. - The Emory & Henry women's tennis teams took an ODAC loss on Sunday afternoon at the hands of Randolph-Macon College. The team (7-5, 4-3 ODAC) faced off against the 14th-ranked squad in the Atlantic South Region in the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon (11-0, 6-0 ODAC), and fell 6-3.
Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) continues to be a bright spot for the women's tennis team. Mazzari, who has now won 12 straight singles matches, defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2. In addition to winning her singles match, she and Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tn.) improved their doubles record to 8-1 on the year, after defeating their counterpart, 8-6. Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) lost a close one at two, 8-4. Ana-Belen Gomez (Irving, Texas) and Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.) did not fare much better, losing at three doubles, 8-2.
At two singles, Riner was only able to win one game, losing 6-0, 6-1. Summers fell by the same score at three singles. Gomez was shut out at four singles, 6-0, 6-0. The Yellow Jackets earned their final victory at five singles as Sheaves lost, 6-1, 6-0. Meade continues to be a stand out for the Wasps tennis team. The freshman her match at six singles, 6-2, 6-4. Meade has now won eight straight singles matches, bringing her record to 9-2 on the season.
The Wasps' next match is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 at Ferrum. The non-conference matchup is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
