LONG VALLEY, N.J. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IDA Team started competition off with a bang on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship. The championship is being hosted by Centenary (N.J.) College.

The Wasps saw a pair of individual national champions crowned and two other riders take a reserve champion finish.

Sophomore Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) was named the Lower Training Level Individual Champion and becomes the fourth rider in Intermont Equestrian history to win a national title at that level.

Junior Sierra Davenport (Chilhowie, Va.) took first place in the Introductory Level, winning the Mary Beth McLain Memorial Trophy. She becomes the third Intermont Equestrian rider to claim a national championship at the Introductory Level.

In the First Level, junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) took home Reserve-Champion honors while senior Bailey Halverson (Concord, N.C.) finished 11th. In the Upper Training Level, senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) notched a Reserve Champion finish and senior Karissa Donohue (Benson, N.C.) placed fifth.

On Friday, four Emory & Henry riders competed in the finals of the IDA/USDF National Quiz Challenge. Donohue took second place among Upper Training Level competitors and senior Megan Wilson-Bost (Glouster, Va.) was second in the Lower Training Level. Junior Hannah Phillips (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed third and junior Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) came in fourth in the Introductory Level.

The Wasps will compete in the national team finals on Sunday, and look to defend their titles from 2014 and 2015. Martino will ride at First Level, Donohue at the Upper Training Level, Worth-Jones at the Lower Training Level and Carroll at the Introductory Level.
