Intermont Equestrian Begins Championship Show Schedule This Weekend

BRISTOL, Va. –Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College will compete in a trio of national championship shows over the next four weekends. The program currently boasts 18 team national titles and 27 individual championships.

This weekend, the Wasps will compete at the American National Riding Commission Intercollegiate Championship in Long Valley, New Jersey, hosted by Centenary (N.J.) College. A team of seniors Emily McBee (Cartersville, Ga.), Bailey Halverson (Concord, N.C.) and Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) and junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) will compete on the National Team while senior Megan Wilson-Bost (Glouster, Va.) and sophomore Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) will ride on the Novice Team.

The ANRC Championship is divided into four different sections. Day one begins with Written Phase and concludes with the Program Ride. The second day has a Medal Phase and a Derby Phase. The top two scores for each team are counted and the sections are weighted in the following manner: Written (5%), Derby (30%), Medal (30%) and Program Ride (35%).

Next weekend, Emory & Henry will return to Centenary for the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship. The team of Martino, senior Karissa Donohue (Benson, N.C.), sophomore Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) and junior Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) will represent the Wasps on team championship day.

The individual competition at the IDA National Championship will see Halverson and Martino compete at the First Level, Donohue and Sollenberger compete at the Upper Training Level, Worth-Jones in the Lower Training Level and Carroll in the Introductory Level.

On Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6 three E&H riders will travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association National Finals. Sollenberger and Martino will ride in Novice Equitation Over Fences while sophomore Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) will compete in Walk/Trot Equitation. The Novice Over Fences competition will be on Thursday morning while Walk/Trot will show on Friday afternoon.
