#2 Roanoke Women’s Tennis Defeats Seventh-Seeded Emory & Henry, 7-2, In ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals

SALEM, Va. – The #2 Roanoke College Women's Tennis Team (14-2) advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 7-2 win over seventh-seeded Emory & Henry College (10-10) Saturday afternoon at the Elizabeth Campus Courts.

The 10 wins this season for Emory & Henry are the most since the 2008-09 season when the Wasps won 11 matches. It was also in 2009 that E&H last reached the ODAC Tournament.

In doubles play, senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) earned an 8-6 win at the No. 1 flight for one of the Wasps' points on the day. Di Michele claimed a 6-4, 7-6 (1) win at the premier singles pairing for Emory & Henry's other match victory.

For the year, Di Michele finishes with a 16-1 (10-1 ODAC) singles record with her lone loss coming against Washington and Lee University's Sonja Meighan. She also had 13 doubles wins. Wingate was 16-4 on the season in singles and also won 14 doubles matches.

Sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) went 13-7 in singles and notched 11 doubles wins while freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) had 10 singles victories and six doubles wins on the season.

Emory & Henry will now await the release of the 2014 All-ODAC Teams which will be announced in early May, following the conclusion of the league's tournament.
