EMORY, Va. – Emory & Henry College Director of Athletics Anne Crutchfield has announced that Leroy Worley has been selected as Interim Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach.

Worley replaces Shawnee Kegley, who recently resigned from her position as head coach to spend more time with her growing family.

"We are very excited to welcome Leroy Worley to our athletics family in this new role," said Crutchfield. "Our track & field athletes have shown tremendous improvement over the last year.  Coach Worley's experience as a veteran track & field coach will enable our teams to build upon that success."

Worley spent the 2019-20 academic year as a volunteer assistant with the Wasps' track & field programs and moves into the head coaching position with a decorated tenure as a high school coach in both cross country and track & field at Freedom and Forest Park High Schools in Woodbridge, Virginia and at Virginia High School in Bristol.

Across his career, Worley has coached two high school All-Americans – including a USATF National Champion in the triple jump; 55 all-state athletes, who won five state championships; 172 all-region performers (35 region champions); and 576 all-district selections, who claimed 94 district titles. His 1998 Virginia High School girls' track & field team won both the Highlands District and Region IV Championships, placing fourth at the VHSL AA State meet.

"I'd like to thank Anne Crutchfield and everyone involved at Emory & Henry College for this opportunity," commented Worley. "I'm ecstatic to be back in the Tri-Cities and to have this privilege to guide the cross country and track & field programs at Emory & Henry. I can't wait to get our feet on the ground and start working towards the goal of taking our programs onward and upward."

Worley was a prep standout on the track and continued his career at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he earned all-conference and all-district honors in the 400 meter hurdles. He graduated from Southwestern in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and completed a certification in library science at East Tennessee State University in 2000.
