Emory & Henry Honors 176 Student-Athletes For Academic Success In 2019-20

EMORY, Va./FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference are pleased to announce that 176 E&H student-athletes have earned academic honors for the 2019-20 academic year. One hundred thirty-two student-athletes from the College's 20 NCAA Division III sports were recognized as members of the ODAC All-Academic Team while an additional 44 from the Intermont Equestrian, cheer and dance teams earned the designation of Emory & Henry All-Academic.

Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team or Emory & Henry Scholar-Athlete is open to any student-athlete that competes in an E&H varsity sport, regardless of academic class. He or she must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered.

Emory & Henry was led by the Intermont Equestrian teams with 35 selections for their coed squad while football received the highest number of male honors with 24. Softball and women's soccer tied for the most women's team picks for a second year in a row with 14. Men's tennis (72.7% - 8-of-11) topped the men's side in highest percentage. Both women's golfers were part of the team while 90.9 percent (10-of-11) of the women's swimming team achieved the honor for the highest women's percentages.

Women's tennis (77.7%), softball (70%), men's swimming (70%), Intermont Equestrian (61.4%), men's soccer (60%), women's soccer (58.3%), women's basketball (53.8%), baseball (50%), men's cross country (50%), cheer (50%) and dance (50%) all saw at least half of their student-athletes receive All-Academic honors.

League-wide, a record 2,646 student-athletes were named to the ODAC All-Academic Team. This marks the third time in the last four years that more than 2,000 student-athletes have been recognized and breaks the previous record of 2,120 that was set last year. Emory & Henry was one of a dozen ODAC schools to have 100 or more student-athletes honored.
