EMORY, Va. –  Emory & Henry University has announced that it will be reducing the number of varsity intercollegiate sports at the end of the current season.

Based on the findings of an external audit conducted during the 2023-24 academic year, this will be the final season for the men's & women's golf and men's & women's swimming programs. The move will affect 43 student-athletes and three staff members.

The teams will continue to compete through the conclusion of the season including the South Atlantic Conference Championships and potential qualification for the NCAA Division II National Championships.

The SAC Swimming Championship meet will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center from Wednesday, February 5 through Sunday, February 8. The SAC Golf Championships will take place at The Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, South Carolina. Women's golf will be held Sunday, April 6 through Tuesday, April 8 while the men's tournament is set for Sunday, April 13 through Tuesday, April 15.

"This is a very difficult day for Emory & Henry Athletics," commented Director of Athletics Kyle Sensabaugh. "Over the past several years, I have built relationships with the student-athletes and coaches of these programs and seen their hard work and growth. While I understand the need to evaluate our programs, it is especially tough that this is happening at the outset of my term as Director of Athletics."

Each of the affected student-athletes will have the opportunity to continue their education at Emory & Henry. The Department of Athletics will assist any student-athlete who is interested in transferring to compete at another institution to find the right fit for them academically and athletically.
