Clay Gardner enters his first year as Director of Sports Information and fourth year on staff at Emory & Henry University. He is the main contact for 18 of the University’s 21 NCAA Division II varsity programs and the Intermont Equestrian program as well as directing statistical coverage and the maintenance of GoWasps.com. Gardner spent the previous three years as Assistant Director of Sports Information where he was lead contact for 10 different sports. 

Prior to Emory, Gardner spent one year as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at fellow South Atlantic Conference member Coker University. There he was the lead contact for 12 different sports for the Cobras, writing recaps and acting as the main statistician on campus. He also acted as play-by-play commentator for several sports as well as running broadcasts on the Cobra Sports Network.

Gardner got his start in sports information as an undergraduate at Barton College where he was a student assistant in the athletic department. During the busy season of spring 2021, Gardner helped the Bulldogs as a statistics spotter, public address announcer and play-by-play commentator as well as set up and break down for all athletics events on campus.

Clay graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Sports Management from Barton in 2021. He is a native of Elm City, North Carolina and now resides in Meadowview, Virginia with his fiancee Amber.
