Kris Hartz joined the Emory & Henry University Department of Athletics as an Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning in August 2024. He will be working with the Baseball, Cross Country, Golf, Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rugby, Men’s Soccer, and Swimming teams.
Prior to Emory & Henry University, Hartz has worked as an athletic trainer, an owner of two Anytime Fitness centers and as a strength & conditioning coach at those fitness centers. His career started as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Purdue University from 1996-1998. After Purdue, he worked for a year as the athletic trainer for Hartland Arrowhead High School (Hartland, Wis.) and Waukesha Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Center. From there, he was an assistant athletic trainer at Marquette University working with Men’s basketball, Men’s Soccer, and Track and Field. His next stop was at Carroll University (Waukesha, Wis.) and during his tenure there he was a Head Athletic Trainer, Assistant Professor, and Athletic Training Program Director. In 2007, Hartz became the Athletic Training Program Director at King University. In 2008 he opened an Anytime Fitness in Bristol, Virginia and later opened an Anytime Fitness in Abingdon in 2010. There he has directed the training programs and worked with a variety of clients and athletes.
Hartz is a nationally certified and Virginia-licensed athletic trainer and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He also holds certifications as a Pain-Free Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Precision Nutrition, TRX Level 2, Dry Needling, and Blood Flow Restriction Therapy. He is also certified First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross.
A native of Chariton, Iowa, Hartz played four sports throughout high school. After high school, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training and then completed his Master of Science in Education from Purdue University.
Hartz lives in Abingdon with his wife Heather and still owns the Anytime Fitness in Abingdon.
