Samuel Roome joined the Emory & Henry University Department of Athletics as its Director of Strength & Conditioning in July 2024. He comes to Emory after seven years as Head Sports Performance Coach at his alma mater Averett University. 

Roome returned to Averett after serving as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Division II Catawba College beginning in January 2016. While at Catawba, he designed and integrated strength training and conditioning programs for a number of the college’s athletics programs.

Prior to Catawba, Roome was an intern Strength and Conditioning Coach at Division I University of North Carolina at Charlotte from August 2015 to December 2015, and held the same position at Division I Robert Morris University from May 2015 to August 2015. He also served as an intern Strength and Conditioning Coach at Mount Pleasant High School, his alma mater, where he also assisted in coaching both varsity and junior varsity basketball and football.

Roome is certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He also holds certifications through Functional Movement Systems, the National Council of Strength and Fitness as a Sport Nutrition Specialist (SNS), along with Adult First Aid/CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross.

A native of Concord, North Carolina, Roome played two seasons of football at Averett after transferring from UNC-Charlotte. An offensive lineman, Roome garnered USA South Academic All-Conference honors for both seasons.

Roome earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in personal training from Averett in 2015. He later went on the earn his master’s in business administration with a concentration in leadership from Averett in December 2019 and a master of science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Logan University in April 2023.

Roome lives in Meadowview with his wife Cassandra and their two dogs, Mowgli and Gage.
