Wasps Select Wayne Miller As Next Assistant Baseball Coach

EMORY, Va.Wayne Miller has been hired as the Assistant Baseball Coach at Emory & Henry College, Head Baseball Coach Trey McCall announced today. Miller comes to Emory after serving as an Assistant Coach at Bearden HS in Knoxville, Tenn., for the 2011 season.

"I am very excited with the addition of Coach Miller to the baseball program," said McCall.  "Wayne has competed at the highest collegiate level and will bring a passion that will challenge our players.  As a Knoxville native, he is very familiar with both the high school and summer teams in a talent-rich area, which will bolster our recruiting efforts."

Miller is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Alexandria Aces in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Summer League and has coached summer baseball camps for the past four years.

"I'm extremely excited to get the opportunity to be a part of the Emory & Henry family," Miller said. "I was fortunate enough to learn a lot from some great coaches during my playing days at Samford University, as well as getting some invaluable experience at Bearden High School under coach Jack Tate and with the Alexandria Ace's in the Cal Ripken Summer Collegiate League. I feel like those experiences have greatly influenced my style of coaching and I plan to bring my passion for baseball and strong work ethic to E&H."

A four-year starter at Samford University of the Southern Conference from 2007 to 2010, Miller started 174 contests at second base and centerfield and holds a .328 career batting average. He was selected to the All-Southern Conference Second Team and earned Academic All-Southern Conference and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors as well. In 2009, Miller received the SoCon's Coleman Lew Leadership Award.

"I'd also like to thank Head Coach Trey McCall for giving me this opportunity," continued Miller. "His passion for the game and establishing a winning tradition at E&H really showed, and I'm excited to get started and help in the process of bringing an ODAC championship home to E&H."

Miller is also highly involved in community service. He has been a part of child mentorship programs, worked with homeless outreach organizations during the holidays and had worked with inner city youth.

A 2010 graduate of Samford, Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and German.
