UVA-Wise Baseball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 14-10, In Extra Innings Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The UVA-Wise Baseball Team (6-7) picked up a 14-10 victory over Emory & Henry College (2-6) Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield/Devault Field. The Highland Cavaliers came back from being down 8-2 to force extra innings and defeat the Wasps. Every inning in the contest saw at least one of the teams put runs on the board.

Emory & Henry got out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two in the second.

UVA-Wise closed the gap to 5-2 in the top of the third. With two outs and two runners on, Steven Allen singled down the left field line clearing the bases.

The Wasps added three runs to go up 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth frame thanks to four hits and an error by the Cavaliers.

Wise got two runs in the top of the fifth and would score in every inning through the end of the game. The Cavaliers got a run across in the top of the ninth to tie the contest at 10 and scored four in the 10th on two two-run home runs.

Josh Guizar got the win on the mound for UVA-Wise, moving to 1-0 on the year. He pitched three shutout innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three. At the plate for the Cavaliers, Brett Hylton went four-for-five on the day with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored. Allen was three-for-six with three RBI.

Emory & Henry senior Will Schulhof (Berryville, Va.) suffered the loss for Emory & Henry, falling to 0-1 on the year. Offensively, senior first baseman Jesse Blizzard (Independence, Va.) went three-for-five on the day with two RBI and senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) was two-for-five, driving in three runs.

Emory & Henry travels to Washington and Lee on Saturday to face the Generals as they open ODAC play.
