Methodist Baseball Takes Two Mid-Week Games From Emory & Henry, 8-7 And 5-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist University Baseball Team (11-8) picked up two wins over Emory & Henry (3-9) Tuesday and Wednesday to sweep the season series. The Monarchs won by a score of 8-7 in 10 innings on Tuesday and came away with a 5-0 victory on Wednesday.

Tuesday – Methodist 8, Emory & Henry 7 (10 innings)
Emory & Henry got out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and was up by as much as 7-3 before Methodist scored five unanswered runs to steal the contest.

Senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) led the way for the Wasps at the plate, going three-for-five while senior second baseman Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) was two-for-five with two RBI.

Methodist's Brandon Thigpen was two-for-three on the day with three RBI, a home run and two walks.

Josh Ayers picked up the win in relief for the Monarchs while sophomore Ricky Sowers (Blacksburg, Va.) was credited with the loss.

Wednesday – Methodist 5, Emory & Henry 0
Methodist broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and added two more runs in the seventh en route to the victory.

The Monarchs had eight hits and took advantage of five E&H errors on the day.

Emory & Henry managed only three hits in the contest and was no-hit through six innings of play.

Thigpen led the way for the Monarchs at the plate, going two-for-three with a home run, two runs and a RBI.

Methodist's Rett Lee went eight innings on the hill allowing just two hits and striking out nine to get the win, while senior Joe Washburn (Rocky Mount, Va.) was suffered the loss.

The Wasps will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. on Saturday, as they return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. E&H will take on Eastern Mennonite University in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
