EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (6-13, 4-3 ODAC) picked up an 8-3 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action over visiting Roanoke College (10-10, 2-3 ODAC) Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield/Devault Field.

Roanoke got on the board with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Alex Stepp and Brian Kluge.

In the bottom of the third, E&H responded to close the gap to 2-1. With a runner on third and one out, junior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.) hit a RBI groundout to shortstop, scoring senior second baseman Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.).

The Wasps took their first lead of the contest in the fourth. After senior left fielder Remington Hedgepeth (Winston-Salem, N.C.) drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the inning, junior designated hitter Logan Ball (Honaker, Va.) took the first pitch and drove it over the fence in right centerfield to put E&H up 3-2.

In the top of the eighth, the Maroons tied the contest at three. Kluge doubled to left center to lead off the inning, and a throwing error by the pitcher allowed him to advance home.

E&H's offense came alive in the bottom half of the frame. The Wasps scored five runs, thanks to patient batters, earning four walks and adding two hits. A RBI single by sophomore shortstop Ricky Sowers (Blacksburg, Va.) highlighted the inning for the Wasps.

The Emory & Henry defense put together its fifth one-two-three inning in the top of the ninth to complete the game. Junior pitcher Will Dingus (Powhatan, Va.) went the distance on the hill for the Wasps, scattering eight hits over nine innings of work while striking out five.

At the plate, the Wasps were paced by Ball, who went two-for three with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. Senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) was two for three with a RBI and two walks while McMillian finished the day two-for-four with two runs scored.

For Roanoke, Kluge went two-for-four at the plate with a double, a run scored and a RBI while Stepp was one for three, driving in a run. Jacob McMillian suffered the loss, pitching three innings in relief and allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

Emory & Henry will travel to Ferrum, Va. on Wednesday to take on Ferrum College in non-conference play. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
