Emory & Henry Baseball Splits Friday Twin-Bill With Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (7-15, 5-4 ODAC) split a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference contests with Randolph-Macon College (10-12-1, 5-3 ODAC) Friday afternoon at Hugh Stephens Field. The contests were moved to Friday due to the forecast of rain on Saturday in Ashland. E&H pounded out 24 hits in game one, winning 19-13, while R-MC claimed a 4-3 victory in game two.

Game One – Emory & Henry 19, Randolph-Macon 13
Emory & Henry exploded for 19 runs, its highest offensive production since a 24-0 win over Roanoke on April 17, 2002.

The Wasps scored in every inning except the ninth, putting 11 runs on the board in the first four innings, including five in the third frame alone. After Randolph-Macon closed the gap to 13-9 in the bottom of the sixth, Emory & Henry put another four runs on the board in the seventh to extend its lead to 17-9. E&H would hang on for the 19-13 win, its seventh of the season, eclipsing last season's win total.

Senior right fielder Remington Hedgepeth (Winston-Salem, N.C.) went five-for-six on the day with three runs and three RBI. Senior second baseman Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) was two-for-five at the leadoff spot, but drove in five runs and scored two of his own.

Jordan Walton led the Yellow Jackets offensively, going four-for-six with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI. Jake Fletcher was two for three with three runs and three runs driven in.

Freshman Colby Gardner (Kingsport, Tenn.) picked up the win in relief for the Wasps, moving to 3-0 on the year. Jamie Hendrick took the loss for R-MC allowing eight runs in three innings of work.

Game Two – Randolph-Macon 4, Emory & Henry 3
The nightcap couldn't have been any different than game one. After both teams lit up the scoreboard, game two saw steady pitching and defense on both sides.

Randolph-Macon broke open a 1-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs including a RBI double by Macon Heikes.

A leadoff home run by McMillian in the top of the fifth and a single through the left side by junior first baseman Logan Ball (Honaker, Va.) that plated senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) in the eighth.

The contest was called after eight innings due to darkness. Micheale Helbig picked up the win for Randolph-Macon while Ryan Wood earned the save. E&H junior Jessup Lambert (Fries, Va.) suffered the loss despite going the distance with four runs on eight hits and eight strikeouts.

Heikes was three-for-four at the plate for the Yellow Jackets while McMillian and Ball each went three-for-four in the game for Emory & Henry

Emory & Henry will return home on Tuesday to face off against Maryville (Tenn.) College at 3:00 p.m.
