EMORY, Va. - The Greensboro College Baseball Team (20-11) picked up a 13-3 non-conference victory over Emory & Henry College (8-19) Thursday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field. The Pride sweep the season series with the Wasps, 2-0.
Greensboro broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with three runs. A RBI single to left field by James Feldman highlighted the frame as the Pride had five hits and took advantage of an E&H error. Two runs in the top of the fourth would give Greensboro a 5-0 lead.
Emory & Henry got on the board with two runs in the bottom half of the foruth. A double by senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Caleb Rotton (Boiling Springs, N.C.) each plated runs for the Wasps to draw the score to 5-3.
After adding a run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth, the Pride exploded for four runs in the eighth frame for a 13-2 lead. Greensboro got RBI singles from Feldman and Austin Catherina in the inning.
The Wasps would score a final run in the bottom of the ninth to make the score 13-3. With two outs and the bases loaded thanks to singles by junior Sam Line (Inman, S.C.), Rotton and senior centerfielder Brandon Lucas (Riner, Va.), senior infielder Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) was hit by a pitch to bring in a run.
Ramel Graham got the win for Greensboro to move to 3-0 on the year. He went five innings, scattering six hits, two runs and two walks while striking out five. E&H senior Matt Fisher (Newark, Ohio) fell to 0-1 in his first decision of the year.
At the plate for the Pride, Feldman finished three-for-five with three RBI and a run scored while Seth Caison was three-for-five as well. Catherina went three-for-four on the day and Bill Wooding was two-for-four with four runs and three RBI.
For Emory & Henry, sophomore shortstop Ricky Sowers (Blacksburg, Va.) went three-for-five while junior first baseman Logan Ball (Honaker, Va.) was two-for-four on the day.
The Wasps will play host to the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
