Milligan Baseball Takes Down Emory & Henry, 9-3, Tuesday Evening

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - The Milligan College Baseball Team (22-21) posted a 9-3 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (10-20) Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Anglin Athletic Complex. The Buffaloes take the season series from the Wasps, two games to none.

Milligan got out to a 3-0 lead in tbe bottom of the second thanks to a two-RBI double by Hunter Carpenter.

The Wasps tied the contest at three runs apiece in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-run triple by sophomore shortstop Ricky Sowers (Blacksburg, Va.) and a single by junior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.).

The Buffs got three runs in the seventh and added another trey in the eighth to make the final score 9-3. Three straight base hits in the eighth proved to give Milligan the insurance they would need to claim the victory.

Tyler Walker picked up the win in relief for Milligan, allowing three hits in two innings of work. Derek Long pitched six inning sin the start, with four hits and five strikeouts in the no-decision. Carpenter led the Buffaloes at the plate, going two-for-three with two RBI while Cory Hilton was two-for-five.

Senior Joe Washburn (Rocky Mount, Va.) took the loss for Emory & Henry, as he pitched six-plus innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Three Wasp batters had multi-hit games led by Sowers as he went two-for-four with a walk, two RBI and a run scored. Sophimore designated hitter Sam Line (Inman, S.C.) was two-for four on the day while senior second baseman Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) was two-for-five with a run.

Emory & Henry will travel to Bluefield College to take on the Rams on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
