Emory & Henry Baseball Rallies To Defeat Bluefield, 10-9, On the Road

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (11-20) rallied three times to come away with a 10-9 non-conference win over Bluefield College Wednesday night on the road. The Wasps avenged a loss earlier in the year to the Rams to split the season series.

Emory & Henry got two runs in the top of the first but was answered by two runs in the second and three in the third by Bluefield to make the score 5-3. The Wasps were able to tie the contest in the sixth at five runs apiece.

After the Rams got a run in the bottom of the seventh, E&H took the lead for the first time in the eighth with a two-run frame. Bluefield got two runs of its own to retake the lead, 8-7.

In the top of the ninth, Emory & Henry tied the contest on a two-out single by senior left fielder Brandon Lucas (Riner, Va.). Senior shortstop Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) hit a double down the left field line to plate two runs and give the Wasps a 10-8 advantage. The Rams were able to bring one across the plate in the bottom of the inning, but would get no closer.

McMillian went three-for-six at the plate with four RBI to lead E&H while Lucas was two-for-five with three runs scored and two RBI. Senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) went three-for-five as well.

Junior Jessup Lambert (Fries, Va.) picked up the win in relief for the Wasps, pitching two innings. Senior Zach Jones (Fries, Va.) earned his first save of the year in the bottom of the ninth.

Emory & Henry returns home on Saturday to face Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. The Wasps will also honor their 11 seniors prior to the contest.
