Lynchburg Baseball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, In ODAC Tournament Friday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Baseball Team came out on top of a pitchers' duel to defeat third seeded Emory & Henry College by a 3-0 score Friday afternoon at City Stadium in the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Wasps conclude the 2012 season with a 15-23 mark, tying the program record for wins in a season. E&H reached the conference tournament for the first time since 1999 and claimed a first-round higher seed for the first time ever.

Emory & Henry threatened in the first inning, putting two runners on base with one out but could not get one across the plate. E&H also had base runners in the fifth and seventh innings.

Lynchburg got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. A two-out walk by Brock Shiflett set the stage for a RBI double by Michael Del Buono as the Hornets went up 1-0.

In the fifth, the Hornets got two runs to put themselves up 3-0. With two runners on thanks to a hit batsman and a walk, Michael Kenah doubled to left field, plating both runs.

Brandon Miller picked up the complete-game shutout for the Hornets, moving to 8-0 on the year as he faced four batters above the minimum. He allowed just two hits and one walk to lead top-seeded Lynchburg to day three of the tournament.

Wasp junior Jessup Lambert (Fries, Va.) pitched a gem, scattering five hits and four walks over eight innings of work while striking out six batters, but suffered the loss with no run support.

E&H will now await the announcement of the 2012 All-ODAC Teams, scheduled to be released on Saturday afternoon.
