Milligan Baseball Upends Emory & Henry, 25-8, Tuesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Milligan College Baseball Team (10-10) plated runs in each of the first eight innings of the game as the Buffaloes rolled, 25-8, over Emory & Henry College (6-9) Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field.

Milligan jumped out to an 8-1 lead after the top of the second inning and pushed its lead to 20-5 after five and a half. The Buffs led by as much as 18 en route to the victory.

Tyree Jeffries led Milligan at the plate as he went five-for-six with three home runs and seven RBI. Corey McPherson was four-for-five with two walks, two RBI and four runs scored while Sam Tarlton and Blake Buck each had three hits. Jake Watts moved to 4-1 on the year with the win for Milligan. Cody Hyder also had a home run, going two-for-six with three runs and two RBI.

Emory & Henry was led by junior catcher Connor Wise (Cookeville, Tenn.) who went two-for-four with three RBI and a solo home run. Junior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) was three-for-four while senior second baseman Sam Line (Inman, S.C.) had a trio of hits as well.

Senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.) hit a solo home run in the eighth and as he went two-for-five at the plate while freshman first baseman Chase Kirk (Knoxville, Tenn.) homered to left centerfield to start the bottom of the second inning.

The Wasps used five pitchers on the day in the staff outing as junior D.J. Russ (Greensboro, N.C.) fell to 0-1 on the year with the loss.

E&H will return to the diamond on Wednesday evening when it travels to Salem to face Roanoke College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
