Guilford Baseball Routs Emory & Henry, 21-4, Tuesday Afternoon

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Guilford College Baseball Team (17-18, 8-10 ODAC) pounded out 23 hits and took advantage of four Emory & Henry College (8-25, 3-15 ODAC) errors en route to a 21-4 victory Tuesday afternoon at Edgar McBane Field.

The Quakers got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Kent Peterson and Corey Wallace's single through the left side.

In the second, the Wasps drew the score to 2-1 as freshman third baseman Chase Kirk (Knoxville, Tenn.) drove in sophomore first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.), who led off the inning with a triple to right field.

Peterson made the score 4-1 for Guilford in the bottom of the second, doubling to left centerfield with two outs to drive in a pair. GC pushed the advantage to 10-1 in the fourth thanks to six hits and an error. Three straight RBI doubles by the Quakers highlighted the inning, driving in a total of four runs.

Emory & Henry got a couple runs back in the fifth stanza as senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.) hit a two-run home run, driving in senior right fielder Mark Robertson (Roanoke, Va.), got things started with a double.

Guilford added 11 runs over the next three innings including a five-run fifth. Nathan Fulbright doubled to score two while Wallace hit a three-run homer. The Quakers added three runs in both the sixth and seventh to make the score 21-3.

E&H got the final run of the game in the top of the eighth as Robertson drove in senior designated hitter Jessup Lambert (Fries, Va.) with a ground-ball fielder's choice.

Fulbright and Peterson were each four-for-four for Guilford with six and four RBI, respectively. Wallace drove in six runs on three hits as well for the Quakers. Dylan Clark went five innings on the hill, allowing just three runs on five hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.

For the Wasps, Houff and Christopher each had two hits while Houff's fourth home run of the season drove in two runs. Freshman Ty Hill (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 14 hits to fall to 2-4 on the year.

Emory & Henry will travel to Pulaski, Va. on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup with Ferrum College. The contest, which will be played at the Pulaski Mariners' Calfee Park, is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
