Lynchburg Baseball Sweeps Emory & Henry Monday In ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Baseball Team (9-3, 2-2) picked up a sweep in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action over Emory & Henry College (5-7, 3-2 ODAC) Monday afternoon at Fox Field. The game was postponed from Saturday due to wet field conditions from the most recent storm system to pass through the Commonwealth.

Game One – Lynchburg 11, Emory & Henry 6
E&H got out to a 6-2 lead after its half of the fourth inning but wasn't able to hang on as the Hornets scored nine runs in the final six innings to claim an 11-6 win.

Senior designated hitter D.J. Russ made it 3-2 in favor of Emory & Henry when he drove in two runs with a single in the third.  In the fourth, senior second baseman Caleb Rotton (Boiling Springs, S.C.) plated another pair.

Four Lynchburg players had three hits in the game led by Lincoln Evans who scored two runs and drove in a pair. Dustin Arrowood was two for-five with three RBI while Joe Tomasulo and Wil Parsons had three hits and scored two runs each.

Martin Henderlite allowed all six runs on eight hits with the start while Pat Harris pitched 4.1 shutout innings to earn the win.

Rotton was two-for-four with two RBI and two runs. Junior first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) registered a pair of hits and two RBI while sophomore Brett Johnson (Sugar Grove, Va.) had two hits and scored two runs.

Freshman Garrett Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in three innings of relief.

Game Two – Lynchburg 26, Emory & Henry 3
Lynchburg scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as it rolled to a 26-3 win to complete the sweep. Seven different Hornets had multi-hit games as they tallied 26 hits and 24 RBI in the game.

Arrowood added another three hits, four RBI and three runs while Thomasulo drove in five runs on three hits. Brandon Miller picked up the win, allowing just two runs while striking out three with 10 hits.

Russ had three hits and two RBI in the nightcap while Johnson, Christopher and senior catcher Connor Wise (Cookeville, N.C.) tallied two hits each. Sophomore right-hander Ty Hill (Knoxville, Tenn.) allowed 12 runs on 13 hits in the first four innings of the game to fall to 2-2 on the year.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Tuesday when it travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for a 7:30 p.m., contest with Lancaster Bible College. The game will be played at the Ripken Experience's Crosley Field.
