Bluefield Baseball Downs Emory & Henry, 15-2, Tuesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Bluefield College Baseball Team (20-6) opened up an 11-0 lead as it went on to defeat Emory & Henry College (7-9) by a 15-2 score Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field.

The Rams started things off in the top of the second inning when Daniel Copeland plated a pair with a single to right field. Bluefield would add two more runs in the second and got four in the third for an 8-0 lead.

BC made it 11-0 after the fourth inning with all three runs coming from Jacob Wright's home run to left field.

Emory & Henry got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore third baseman Matthew McInaw (Honey Brook, Pa.) singled up the middle with one out to start things off and a catcher's interference put sophomore centerfielder Brett Johnson (Sugar Grove, Va.) put runners on first and second. Junior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) then doubled to right centerfield, driving in both runs.

The Wasps pitching settled in during the middle portion of the game but allowed four more runs in the top of the eighth for the final 15-2 margin. Wright got his second round-tripper of the game, this time a two-run shot to right field to highlight the inning.

Bluefield was paced offensively by Wright, who was three-for-three with two home runs, a double, five RBI, four runs scored and a pair of walks. Tyler Timmer was three-for-four while Copeland had a pair of hits and three RBI. Kaleb Houchins picked up the win, allowing two hits in three innings of work to move to 3-0 on the year.

McInaw went two-for-thee on the day with a run scored while Woullard drove in both runs with his double. Freshman left fielder Connor Bronson (Fincastle, Va.) also had a double in the contest. Senior Brogan Hoover (Stephens City, Va.) took the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits with five walks in three innings.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Wednesday when it hosts Roanoke College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
