Bluefield Baseball Downs Emory & Henry, 11-5, Tuesday Evening

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield College Baseball Team (22-10) picked up an 11-5 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (8-14) Tuesday evening at Bowen Field in non-conference play.

E&H got on the board with a run in the top of the second as sophomore left fielder Ben Barnett (Knoxville, Tenn.) drove in senior catcher Connor Wise (Cookeville, Tenn.), who led off the inning with a walk.

Bluefield answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Kahlin Villines tagged a two-run home run to left field. The Rams got three runs in the third on Jacob Wright's shot to left and added another trio in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple by Wright.

Emory & Henry drew the score to 8-2 in the fifth when freshman designated hitter Caelan Canady (Browns Summit, N.C.) singled to center field to plate freshman right fielder Connor Bronson (Fincastle, Va.).

Tyler Lundgren had a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth while Zac Russell-Myers homered in the sixth to put the Rams up, 10-2.

The Wasps put three runs on the board in the seventh, highlighted by as double to right field by freshman centerfielder Matthew Whisnant (Connolly Springs, N.C.), to close the gap to 10-5. Bluefield got its final run in the eighth as Jakob Schober singled to right field, plating Russell-Myers.

Four different Rams had multi-hit games as they notched 13 base knocks on the day. Wright was two-for-four with five RBI and two runs while Russell-Myers scored four-times on a two-for-four outing. Kaleb Houchins picked up the win, allowing just one run on two hits as the Rams went to their bullpen early in the mid-week contest.

Emory & Henry was led at the plate by Bronson who went two-for-four with a pair of runs. Whisnant also had two hits on the day including the two-run double in the seventh. Sophomore Matthew McInaw took the loss for E&H on the mound.

The Wasps will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Pride of Greensboro College in a non-conference matchup at Porterfield/DeVault Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
