EMORY, Va. – The Greensboro College Baseball Team (3-20) ground out a 10-7 win over Emory & Henry College (8-15) Wednesday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field in non-conference action. Runs were scored in eight of the nine innings, with only the eighth frame coming up blank.

Emory & Henry got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the first.  The Wasps took advantage of three hits and an error with senior right fielder Brogan Hoover's (Stephens City, Va.) single to right centerfield making it 3-0.

Greensboro answered with two runs in the top of the second on a single up the middle by Andrew Hernandez. The Pride plated four more runs in the third and added another run in the fourth for a 7-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wasps began their rally with a solo home run to left centerfield by freshman centerfielder Matthew Whisnant (Connolly Springs, N.C.). The Wasps got two runs in the sixth with Whisnant notching a RBI triple and coming home on junior shortstop Jordan Woullard's (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) base knock to make the score 7-6.

E&H tied things up at seven runs apiece in the bottom of the seventh when Hoover plated junior first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) with another single to right center.

After a scoreless eighth, the Pride put up a trio of runs for the 10-7 final margin. Andrew Ray hit a one-out single to get things going and on the next at bat, Kyle Willard came through with a two-run pinch-hit single.

Eight of the nine starters for Greensboro recorded base hits on the day, led by Blake Throneburg, who was two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored. Hernandez also drove in a pair on his two base hits. Jay Cumbo picked up the win in relief for the Pride, allowing just one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Kris Peeden earned the save.

Woullard was three-for-four for Emory & Henry while Whisnant went two-for-four with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Hoover also finished the day with two hits and two runs. Freshman Garrett Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) suffered the loss for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Winchester, Va., to face off against league-leading Shenandoah University. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for noon.
