EMORY, Va. – The Virginia Intermont College Baseball Team (17-21) picked up an 8-1 win over Emory & Henry College (8-19) Tuesday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field. With the win, the Cobras take the season series, 3-0, from the Wasps.

VI got things started with a run in the second when Seth Davis hit a solo shot to left field. The Cobras added two runs in the fourth on Terrell Thompson's triple down the right field line and made it 4-0 in the sixth when Taylor McInnis drove in Thompson with a single up the middle.

After leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, Emory & Henry got on the board in the bottom of the eighth. After a pair of singles put runners on first and third, the sophomore designated hitter Chase Kirk (Knoxville, Tenn.) drew a bases-loaded walk to push across freshman centerfielder Matthew Whisnant (Connelly Springs, N.C.), who led the inning off with a single.

Thompson was three-for-five on the day with two runs driven in and was just a home run shy of the cycle. Davis scored three times and drove in two runs on the day for VI. Kyle Blue picked up the win, striking out two in two innings of no-hit baseball.

Emory & Henry was led at the plate by senior third baseman Caleb Rotton (Boiling Springs, S.C.) with two hits while Kirk had a RBI and Whisnant notched a run and a hit. Senior D.J. Russ (Greensboro, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
