Berry Baseball Holds Off Emory & Henry Rally, 6-5, Sunday To Complete Series Sweep

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College Baseball Team (5-3) used a four-run third inning to set the tone and held off a late rally by Emory & Henry College (0-6) for a 6-5 win Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry struck first as sophomore right fielder Ben Sexton (Lebanon, Va.) came home on a balk by the Berry pitcher.
- The Vikings got on the board with four runs in the third highlighted by a two-run double by Kris Patel, making the score 4-1.
- In the top of the sixth, the Wasps cut the deficit to 4-2 as sophomore third baseman Eli Straw (Radford, Va.) knocked a RBI single. Two runs by Berry in the bottom half of the sixth pushed the margin to 6-2.
- E&H began its rally with two runs in the seventh as junior centerfielder Josh Macek (Concord, N.C.) drove in a pair with a single to right field.
- The Wasps got their final run in the eighth as Sexton scored on a balk for the second time in the game.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sexton led the way with two hits and two runs scored while Macek drove in two with his base hit and scored a run.
- Straw had a hit and a RBI while sophomore shortstop Ross French (Bridgewater, Va.) and freshman catcher Caleb Wallace (Mocksville, N.C.) each had a hit and scored a run.
-  Freshman Toby Robson (Blythewood, S.C.) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Freshman Alex Laws (Hudson, N.C.) threw two innings of shutout baseball in relief.

Berry Individual Leaders
- Austin Brooks went two-for-three with a RBI while Patel drove in a pair on his base knock.
- Devin Skelton had a hit, a run and a RBI while Slade Dale, Tyler Calvert and Casey Whitaker each notched a hit and a run.
- Austin Loper earned the win in relief, allowing one unearned run while Michael Greene picked up the save.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will open the home portion of its season next weekend as it hosts Johnson University on Saturday and Sunday.
- The Wasps and Royals will play a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday beginning at noon and will close out the series with a nine-inning game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
