EMORY, Va. – The Brevard College Baseball Team (8-25) scored five straight runs late in the game to pull away from Emory & Henry College (4-27) for a 9-5 victory Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
The Tornados opened up a 4-0 lead in the top of the first highlighted by Brae Wooten's solo home run down the left field line. Ryan Roon and Holden Lanier also had RBI doubles in the frame.
Emory & Henry responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, two of which came off the bat of sophomore first baseman Joe Tolone (Concord, N.C.). Tolone would later score on a wild pitch. The Wasps tied the game, 4-4, in the third on error off a failed pickoff attempt.
Brevard retook the lead in the fifth with J.J. Wilkes single to left field and added a pair in the seventh for a 7-4 lead as Wilkes struck again. The Tornados put up a pair of insurance runs in the ninth to extend the margin to 9-4 before senior second baseman Andrew Francisco (Abingdon, Va.) drove in a run for the 9-5 final in the bottom of the inning.
Matthew Scavotto earned the win in relief for BC, striking out two in two innings of no-hit baseball. E&H junior Alex Laws (Hudson, N.C.) suffered the loss, permitting five runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
