Emory & Henry Baseball Holds Off Johnson, 6-4, Wednesday Afternoon

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (4-4) held off a ninth-inning rally by Johnson University (0-8) Wednesday afternoon to pick up its fourth-straight win, 6-4, on the road.

How It Happened
Emory & Henry got on the board with four runs in the top of the second. Senior Ty Spires (Lancaster, Ohio) drew a bases-loaded walk to get things started and two runs scored on an error by the shortstop during junior Jacob Zoller's (Culpeper, Va.) at bat. Spires scored from third on a passed ball two batters later.

The Wasps pushed the margin to 6-0 in the fifth as junior third baseman Hayden Milley (Clover, S.C.) singled to right field and freshman Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) hit a sacrifice fly.

Johnson scored its first run in the bottom of the sixth frame on C.J. Huff's fielder's choice. The Royals tacked on three runs in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice with the bases loaded and two outs. E&H senior Ethan Cave (Jonesville, Va.) entered the game and got the final out to seal the win and earn the save.

Freshman Cameron Mullins (Rocky Mount, Va.) earned the win, scattering one run on three hits with six strikeouts over six innings of work. John Turner suffered the loss, permitting four runs on two hits and three walks across two innings.
