Guilford Baseball Downs Emory & Henry, 18-9, Wednesday In ODAC Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College Baseball Team (3-14, 3-14 ODAC) scored in every inning on its way to an 18-9 win against Emory & Henry College (5-16, 4-16 ODAC) Wednesday afternoon. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday, April 13.

How It Happened
E&H got out to a 3-0 lead in the first highlighted by a two-run double by senior designated hitter Chandler Kezele (Marshall, Va.). The Quakers answered with three in the bottom of the frame and made it a 6-3 contest through two as Austin Bailey hit a two-run double in the second.

In the third, Emory & Henry scored three to tie the contest with Kezele hitting a two-run shot. GC and E&H traded runs in their next two attempts as senior first baseman Joe Tolone (Concord, N.C.) had a RBI single in the fourth to make the score 7-7.

Eight straight runs by Guilford in the next three innings opened up a 15-7 margin. Tanner Hobbs and Ty Clark both had two RBI during the span for the Quakers. Emory & Henry got two runs back in the seventh as senior right fielder Jacob Zoller (Culpeper, Va.) doubled and was driven home by junior centerfielder Connor Buchanan (Meadowview, Va.) but GC scored three more times down the stretch for the 18-9 win.

Clay Dilday earned the win for the Quakers, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out two in five innings. E&H sophomore Jack Singleton (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss with six earned runs on five hits in two-plus innings of work.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will close out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Washington and Lee University at noon. The doubleheader will also serve as Senior Day for the Wasps.
