How It Happened
The Cavaliers opened up a 3-0 lead after the top of the first highlighted by a two-run home run by Tyler Campbell. The Wasps got a run back in the bottom of the frame when junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.) scored on a wild pitch.

Wise scored four in the second on a solo home run by Kyle Hoeth and a three-run shot by Campbell and got two more in the third to lead 9-1. Emory & Henry scored three times in the bottom half of the third as freshman left fielder Sean Davis-Cherry (Chesapeake, Va.) plated a pair with a single up the middle.

UVA Wise increased its lead to 16-4 midway through the contest scoring four times in the fourth and three in the fifth. Clay Taylor drove in two to cap the Cavaliers' offensive output with a single down the left field line.

E&H bounced back to make it 16-11 through five. After a passed ball allowed sophomore second  baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) to come home, an error by the pitcher opened things up for another two runs to score. Another two runs for the Wasps came in the seventh by way of a double to center by sophomore shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) and the Wasps got within two, 16-14, in the eighth on a base knock by sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.).

After sitting the Cavs down in order in the top of the ninth, Emory & Henry loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to break through as the score would remain, 16-14.

Ryan Whitson earned the win in relief, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Nash Bingham grabbed the save, scattering three hits over the final 1.1 innings of the contest. E&H freshman Luke Kennedy (Irmo, S.C.) suffered the loss, allowing six runs in one-plus innings.
