Bluefield Baseball Outlasts Emory & Henry, 15-14, Wednesday Afternoon

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University Baseball Team (15-0) scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 15-14 victory against Emory & Henry College (3-9) Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened
After three-and-a-half scoreless innings, Taylor Meaux put the Rams on the board with a three-run home run. The Wasps answered with four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run single to centerfield by junior designated hitter Eli Milhorn (Bluff City, Tenn.).

Emory & Henry made it a 6-3 game midway through the sixth after sophomore second baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and sophomore third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) drove in a run with a fielder's choice.

Bluefield's offense came alive with 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Meaux got things started with a two-run single to right field while Bryce Medlock and Reece Genter each had two-run doubles to make it a 13-6 contest.

The Wasps answered with four runs in the seventh including RBI base knocks by junior left fielder Jackson Lancaster (Keeling, Va.) and Foley to close the gap to 13-10. BU and E&H each got runs on wild pitches for a 14-11 game going into the ninth inning.

Down to their final three outs, Emory & Henry tied the contest at 14-all thanks to a home run by Hensley, and RBI base hits by freshman outfielder Sean Davis-Cherry (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.).

Bluefield would not be outdone in the bottom the ninth, walking-off the contest as Nate Cobb drove in Genter with a single to centerfield and the 15-14 win.

Clay Wisner earned the win for the Rams, despite allowing three runs on four hits in the ninth inning. E&H freshman Ben Williams (Montpelier, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hit and a walk in 1.1 innings of work.

Emory & Henry will have a 12-day break before its next contest. The Wasps host Concord University on Tuesday, March 15 at 3:00 p.m.
