Pikeville Baseball Rallies Past Emory & Henry, 12-11, Tuesday Afternoon

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville Baseball Team (10-18) scored eight unanswered to close the game as it erased a seven-run deficit for a 12-11 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (4-12) Tuesday.

How It Happened
E&H opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as sophomore second baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) hit a two-run home run to left-center. UPIKE answered in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly by Eduardo Bello.

The Wasps extended their lead to 5-1 through two, highlighted by a two-run single to left by sophomore shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.). In the sixth, Emory & Henry added three more for an 8-1 advantage with sophomore first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) driving in a pair with a double.

Pikeville's offense woke up in the seventh with Cameron Revolt and Demarco Miller tallying RBI base hits that closed the gap to 8-4. E&H answered in the eighth to run its lead back to 11-4 with Sawyers hitting a two-run single up the middle.

The Bears scored six runs in their half of the eighth as Revolt notched a grand slam and Miller added a solo shot. Pikeville completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth with Revolt again coming through with a RBI base hit and Miller drawing a bases-loaded hit by pitch for the 12-11 walk-off.

Ryan Ratliff earned the win for the Bears pitching the ninth inning and allowing no runs on one hit to complete the staff outing. Wasp freshman Ben Williams (Montpelier, Va.) suffered the loss as he allowed two runs on two hits in the ninth. Sophomore Will Clark (Collinsville, Va.) got a no-decision for E&H, scattering three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.
